WITCH’S LAIR @ Hatch (15 November 2024)

*gasp* Who goes there? Show yourself!! Oh, not to worry – it’s just a roving gang of witches, out collecting various ingredients with which to carry out their nefarious synthesizer deeds. Better leave them to it…

There is tell of a gathering – nay, a conclave – occurring on the fifteenth night of November, in a cave so dreadfully dank that one can hardly hear one’s own footsteps from the dense layer of moss covering the ground.

Rumour has it that a coven of witches will be installing their wicked instruments and weave threads of “musick” that threaten to melt right through all seven known planes of existence. What abominable cacophonies will they be concocting? What accursed screeches and wailings will be drawn from their wretched circuits? What depths of the soul will be plumbed through tiny wires plugged into bizarre modular devices in an array of arcane patterns? And what on God’s green Earth is a “super collider”?

Come forth, young one, and partake in the frenzied ritual as hosted by the mystical band of merrymakers that is Interworld, bringing you the following…

THE SILVER FIELD

The Silver Field is a sound world of Coral Rose Kindred-Boothby. Voice, tapes, bass, samples, synthesis, strings, reeds, drums, small sounds, big sounds, sunlight, moonlight, a lot of water. Using her modular synthesiser and other self-built electronic instruments, she weaves together song-soundscapes, creating a rich and dream-like tapestry of sound that draws from folk music tradition, experimental electronics and psychedelia.

GRACEFUL DEGRADATION

A mainstay of Interworld events, Graceful Degradation has specially designed a series of evolving textures and soundscapes for this Drone Night. Influenced by the Curry–Howard equivalence in programming theory and the idea of transforming ideas/concepts across piecewise smooth manifolds, expect a series of minimal investigations into the fundamental nature of sound, harmony and rhythm through repetition and interference.

ARTIST’S CHILD

The solo electronic music and spatial sound practice of performance designer Bethany Wells. Drawing on her experiences of shamanic healing rituals, plant medicine, and work in architecture and theatre, she creates immersive spatial worlds for audiences to enter into.

Expect narratively-driven meditative journeys, moving between drone, ambient and dark techno.

TRVE YORKSHIRE KVLT ENSEMBLE

Sheffield’s darkweb summoners translating hex code into ear-splitting air. It’s the sound of demons spewing out of ancient laptops, packets lost to the abyss, cute pentagrams glowing in the mist. Rich and malty, with a lingering sense of foreboding.
