NikNak has carved a niche for herself in the music industry with her distinctive turntablism, immersive compositions, and captivating improvised performances. Heralded by the likes of DJ Mag, Clash, The Wire and Resident Advisor, her debut album Bashi garnered critical acclaim, positioning her as one to watch in the experimental electronic music scene. Her fourth studio album, Ireti, was released on Matthew Herbert’s label Accidental Records in 2024 and was named one of the year’s best albums by Mixmag and Bandcamp. reconstructed arsenal of futuristic breakbeats, turntablism, and dubby delays. Bredbeddle is Rebecca Lee, an artist, composer and musician. Across two albums as Bredbeddle, ‘Steps on the Turning Year’ (Bezirk) and ‘Stackes’ (Fractal Meat Cuts), her work merges composition and collage using sampled and montaged sounds played back through various physical formats. Strands of harmony and melody are pulled from unexpected places and juxtaposed, held up for contemplation and then strung together into intricate pieces. Often manifesting as long-form, durational compositions, Bredbeddle’s process is rooted in seeing archives as a launching off point: recorded material as a site of potential, rather than an end point frozen in time and context.
One of multiple projects from Jonathan George Fox, Flight Coda sees them exploring and re-sampling synth loops, field recordings and other personal archival material. On albums “a window at night the 27th” (Warm Winters Ltd) and “there’s a planet on your chest”, celestial drones and delicate melodies merge to form soundscapes that feel both fragile and all-encompassing at the same time. Expect mysteriously comforting dream-like simulations.
