We are extremely psyched to bring internationally renowned DJ, producer and experimental pop artist BABii to Sheffield as part of her UK/EU tour for her new album, DareDeviil2000!
BABii is the alter-ego of master creator, world builder and electronic adventurer Daisy Warne. Daredeviil2000 is a continuation of the writing style she began with 2022 collaborative mixtape Screamer, which saw the producer and vocalist writing from the perspective of her younger sister and their struggle with BPD. On Daredeviil2000, BABii asks challenging questions about what pushes people to transgress while also exploring her personalrelationships with those who society deems unwanted or unacceptable. Featuring producers Warpstr, Samuel Organ, Mun Sing, Iglooghost and Pholo, the album touches on classic grime instrumentals, fluorescent bassline, UKG, R&B, and Detroit cybercrime scam rap for influence while sounding utterly unique.
For this immersive live set, BABii enters something akin to Dante’s Inferno, exploring the origins of violence and criminality and how hell relates to the real world – with a cast of malevolent characters existing in the fantastical Nevaworld, a futuristic hellscape in which the album exists.
Also starring is Manchester’s Yem Gel, a musical vision of North UK human Alex Pierce. It exists to tell music stories of e.g. a flax-clad trunkhead throwing a sack of apples in your direction, a self-organising array of steam and pipes, an abandoned lead mine that mutters, or, a gyre of wet birds exiting cumulonimbi. With releases and contributions on Slagwerk, Quantum Natives and Orange Milk Records, this live set is bound to be a blast of gloopy-yet-high-definition leftfield dreamscapes.
Bringing the heat further will be Jordan Windows spinning ethereal leave-your-body music; Phoneutrian, creating live uncanny symphonies of dance power; and DJ Blue Raspberry, queen of tasty hyperpop bangers with a side of tempo-knob twitchery.
